How a stage works

Every instruction is spoken, so a child who cannot read yet can play on their own. There are 15 stages. A stage with new letters moves through four parts, and review stages go back over letters already met.

  1. Meeting new letters: the hoopoe sits on a branch beside three Arabic letters to tap and hear.

    Meet

The hoopoe says each new letter's name. Your child taps the letters to hear them again.

  2. Practise: three lanterns each hold an Arabic letter, and the child taps the one the hoopoe names.

    Practise

Three lanterns each hold a letter. The hoopoe names one, and your child taps it.

  3. Play: paper birds carry letter tiles across the sky, and the child taps the letter the hoopoe names.

    Play

Paper birds carry letter tiles across the sky. Your child taps the letter the hoopoe names.

  4. The end of a stage: three stars, the stage's letters, and buttons to play again, go on or see the practice card.

    Finish

Up to three stars, the stage's letters, and a practice card for a grown-up to keep.

The garden: a wall of 28 letter tiles, nine of them filled with the letters learned so far, above a Play button.

The garden fills up

The garden wall has a tile for each of the 28 letters. A tile fills in when your child learns its letter, and the big Play button always opens the next stage.

No red crosses

A wrong tap is never marked in red. The hoopoe says the name of the letter that was tapped, then names the right one again, so every mistake is one more chance to listen.

What your child learns

Letter Garden teaches the names of the 28 Arabic letters, in the order of Quranic Mind Academy's own Qaida book. Your child listens first, then finds each letter. A few minutes a day is enough.

Knowing the letters by name is the first step of a Qaida lesson. Joining letters and reading with vowel marks come next, with a teacher. If you are learning alongside your child, our guide to the Arabic alphabet for beginners walks through all 28 letters, and our Noorani Qaida course takes a child from the letters to reading.

For parents

Practice cards

At the end of each stage your child can keep a practice card. Take a screenshot of it, or scan its code with another device to carry on there. You can also send it to your child's teacher.

Progress

Stars and learned letters are kept in the browser on this device, with no account. In private browsing they last for that visit only. A card's QR code or backup code carries them to another device.

The parent corner

Tap the key in the garden and answer a quick question for grown-ups. There you can set the voice, sound effects and nature sounds, choose calmer motion, unlock all stages, enter a backup code or start again.

Privacy

The game has no adverts and sets no cookies. It loads only its own files from this site and sends nothing about your child anywhere.

For teachers: lesson mode

For a lesson on a video call: nothing moves while a question is open, the letters are bigger, there are buttons to replay a letter and show the answer, and nothing is saved. Share your screen, tap for your student, and let them answer out loud.

Open lesson mode with this link, or switch it on in the parent corner: quranicma.com/games/letter-garden/?mode=lesson. Add &stage=4 to the end to start at a given stage.

Accessibility

Children play by listening and tapping. Every instruction is spoken, the ear button says the letter's name again, and no answer is shown by colour alone. Calmer motion keeps the screen still, and it switches on by itself when the device asks for reduced motion.

The panels for grown-ups meet WCAG AA contrast and work with a keyboard and a screen reader. The game itself is drawn and heard, so it cannot be played with a screen reader or a keyboard alone.

If the game does not start

If it stays on the loading circle, update your browser or try another one. If it says part of the game did not load, check the connection and reload the page.
